Lobster Pots and Fish Traps

‘Anna Pope’s exhibition will take place over 6 weeks in 2019 and will form an integral part of the Riverside Gallery programme, and of the Devon Guild’s wider exhibition and events programme.

Her proposal to investigate fish traps and lobster pots from around the world and to interpret her finds into a collection of contemporary fine jewellery/miniature sculptures fascinated us and we were excited by the educational possibilities of a historical study of basket making; a craft which has so many historical resonances, both economic, social and local.

Her proposal to display the exhibition in terms of contemporary pieces of jewellery, each with its own story alongside its background and research, will make for a beautiful, educational and absorbing exhibition which will contribute greatly to some of our objectives:

To deliver a high quality, critically engaged and artistically diverse exhibitions programme that challenges makers creatively, develops talent and offers accessible opportunities to a wide audience to learn about craft and to advocate for investment in talented emerging makers and support the professional development needs of makers at all stages of their careers.’
