This kinetic piece can be worn in various ways as body adornment or be displayed as a sculptural piece on its own. It has been inspired by the versatility of gourds used by people and its close links with basketry. A gourd is part of the Cucurbitaceae family. Silver bands surround a hand raised form. These represent the ribs of a basket and the process of stripping down a gourd for use. The rotating ribs reveal at the centre of the hand raised form a 24 carat gold finish which highlights a cast silver Luffa seed. A Luffa is a common household item found in the bathroom and often incorrectly believed to come from the ocean when in fact it is a gourd.
